“Maybe you can afford to wait. Maybe for you there is a tomorrow. Maybe for you there’s one thousand tomorrows, or three thousand, or ten. So much time you can bathe in it, roll around in it, let it slide like coins through your fingers. So much time you can waste it. But for some of us there’s only today. And the truth is, you never really know.”
It’s
beautiful and it’s true. What if there wasn’t a tomorrow?
The
beauty of this quote is that it applies in so many situations. I have so many
future plans, so many opportunities I want to take, places I want to go. All of
which are shattered by the single notion that “tomorrow” is never really
guaranteed. Our whole lives are centred on the idea of the future. We study at
school so we can get a job. Go to university to further our knowledge and
become qualified. We save money to move out, buy a house, start a family, and
travel the world. Not once do we stop and think of the everyday moments that
make life beautiful. These are the moments that get us from Point A to Point B.
Not
a day goes by where we don’t take something for granted. I volunteer for Make A
Wish Foundation and it is heart-wrenching knowing these beautiful children are
asking for their last wishes. But you know what? They live every day with
positive thoughts. The simple fact they wake in the morning without enduring
medical complications during the night is a reason to smile. They put us all to
shame. We all have something to live for, yet we still find a reason not to
live in the “now”. Don't let your plans for the future blind you from the beauty of every day life.
If
tomorrow doesn’t come I will be left with many questions beginning with “what
if?” That in itself is a horrible thought. I’m
not satisfied enough with life just yet to begin doubting the certainty of a “tomorrow”
but I sure as hell cannot deny the fact it is not guaranteed.
I agree totally. Even Lord Buddha said "Be here NOW". By that he meant live in this moment, which any of us isnt doing. We always plan for the future, aim for it and totally forget to live in present.
