Epitome of Hope

Liam, the face of Wish Day 2013

Once upon a time there lived a little boy full of life and energy. His smile would fill the room with a contagious overwhelming feeling of happiness. Innovative, inspiring and a born comedian he lived every moment like it was his last. Ask anybody who knew him and they would tell you that energetic was an understatement. There was never a dull moment.

This little boy was a cherished gift from God, but he was also taken away from us too soon. At such a young devastating age he was diagnosed with Leukemia, swiftly spreading through his body. A beautiful young abundance of fun quickly became exhausted with countless trips to and from the hospital.

From comedy to chemo. From infinite to indecisive. From school to surgery. From the last laugh to the last breath.

Make a Wish Foundation came in and asked this boy for his last wish. After falling too sick for his trip to an American Dinosaur park...Make a Wish brought the Dinosaur park to him by video. Finally...there was a reason for him to smile again.

Not once did this boy give up hope. Not once did he lose his smile or confidence. He fought and fought until the very end. It is kids like this that deserve better. Bright and bubbly children who deserve to be happy before their time is up.

Volunteering for Operation Make a Wish last Friday was probably one of the most liberating, uplifting and precious days I have spent as a volunteer for Make a Wish. Stories like these are what inspire the work we do. With the help of a dedicated Army and the generosity of the Australian public we are able to grant wishes such as these. Bringing joy to these beautiful children who are the epitome of hope and inspiration is one of the most rewarding experiences. One of which cannot be done without the donations of so many people.

For all of this I want to say thank you to every person who put in a coin for Wish Day. Whether it be for a family holiday, meeting their idol, having a Super Mario party or getting a laptop, none of these wishes could be granted without the help and support of so many people on days like Wish Day.

My Fundraising Page is here.

Rest in peace little one.
